What will you find in this Web Site?
Here you will find information about obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound. There is information that will be helpful to you if you are pregnant, or if someone close to you is pregnant. In our Country most pregnant women have an ultrasound. This Web Site will tell you what to expect, will give you information about prenatal diagnosis, and generally will increase your understanding of your ultrasound examination.
In addition, we talk a little about pelvic ultrasound, which is the term we use when we examine the internal female organs in a woman who is not pregnant. This examination might be done because of pain, a pelvic mass or cyst, excessive bleeding, etc.
Also we talk about prenatal diagnosis: we look at as much of the baby's anatomy as we can to make sure it is normal. Most of the time we can tell you that we found nothing wrong. If we do find something wrong, we can evaluate the seriousness of the problem, obtain consultations, and begin helping you understand what you are dealing with.
Although I expect this site will grow, it will never be as comprehensive as some of the other similar websites. See the links here. For finding information on a particular prenatal problem I especially recommend Joe Woo's site . It is an amazing resource!

Medicine and the Internet
Patients are turning more and more to the internet for information when abnormalities are suspected after an ultrasound. I would be happy to answer your questions about your prenatal or pelvic ultrasound, regardless of where you had the ultrasound done. If you do email me with a question about yourself or a recent ultrasound examination you had, please include a brief medical history: your age, number of pregnancies, gestational age if pregnant, any previous obstetrical complications, number of Caesarian Sections or other Gyn surgery, and your weight and height. (Your weight and height gives me an idea of how satisfactory your ultrasound imaging might have been). Please understand that no matter how much information you give me, I cannot possibly provide you with as good an answer as your own medical provider.
